A short time later, the dove returned with an olive branch to inform Noah that it had indeed found land and the waters were sinking away. The Dove became a symbol of hope.
 
Dove tattoos come in many different designs and some can even opt to add color. Most Christians who get the tattoo, often have it designed with the dove carrying an olive branch in light of this story and their beliefs. The only part that has color added to it is the olive branch. Some clients may also decide to have the dove carrying a heart, to symbolize love. The heart would also be the part of the design to have color.
 
For those who are not using anything but the Dove in their design, they may wish to add colors to either make it more feminine or masculine. The dove may be outlined in pink for girls or blue for boys, and to certain extremes may also include a burst of flames from behind.
