Ancient Meaning Behind Tribal Tattoos

Tribal tattoo designs have a variety of meanings that are used within various cultures. Each different pattern and set of designs which are placed on the body has different meanings and therefore the theme of the tattoo can adjust the meaning of the tattoo. Tribal tattoos are one of the oldest forms of tattoos and are placed on the body to represent these various messages. The distinct look of tribal tattoos can be noticed through dark colors and patterns which make up the symmetrical designs of the tribal tattoo.
Tribal tattoo designs are placed on various parts of the body. Tribal tattoos are some of the most popular tattoos as there is a high level of versatility which can be created from the tattoos through the various designs which can be created.
Haida and Polynesian tattoo designs are two of the most popular variations of tribal tattoos that are displayed on the body and can be traced back hundreds of years to ancient cultures and can be traced to legends that allowed the individual to gain access into the afterlife. These tattoos became increasingly popular and were more than likely discovered by accident hundreds of years ago.
The body and soul were in two portions, one half of one another and the designs which were created on the skin are meant to bring the two properties together and therefore link the physical life with the afterlife as well as being able to gain access into the coveted afterlife. These popular types of markings began to catch on with other tribes and therefore the markings began to vary between tribe to tribe. This is a great way that the tribes could differentiate themselves from one another through the ancient cultures and are still popular to this very day.

David,
There are some tribal tattoos that come with meanings, but most are ancient meanings.
The majority of tribal tattoos are created just to be in the style of the Tribal Art.
